Kerala cases at 45-day high, India’s daily tally back to 40k | India News – Times of India

On the eve of Eid, Kerala posted its highest single-day count of fresh Covid-19 cases in 45 days and numbers in the northeast surged again as India’s tally was back to nearly 40,000 on Tuesday, a day after the country had reported the fewest daily cases since March 16.
Maharashtra added as many as 3,509 older deaths to its overall toll as part of an ongoing data reconciliation process. This was the second highest number of “backlog” fatalities announced in a single day by any state, after 3,951 deaths declared by Bihar last month.
India recorded 39,785 new cases on Tuesday, over 42% of which came from Kerala alone. Fresh cases in the state rose to 16,848, the highest daily number it has reported since June 5, when the tally was 17,328. In the northeast, new cases surged to an all-time high of 806 in Mizoram while Manipur recorded 1,127, just short of the state’s highest count of 1,171 reported last Saturday. Numbers were also high in Arunachal (508), Meghalaya (500) and Tripura (488).
